Chinese New Year is coming, but so is Valentine’s (just right around the corner)! Time to soak up the spirit of love and spend a day proclaiming how much you love each other without having to fear others thinking you’re too mushy. Here’s a list of top 10 things you both can do on this amazing day.
1. PLAN A SECRET OUTING FOR EACH OTHER

The whole idea is to keep it secret from each other till the big day! The element of surprise here is what keeps it super fun. A month ahead of Valentine’s, spilt the day into 2 timeslots and you each get one! Plan it in advance and look forward to spilling the secret on Valentine’s Day itself! Would be awesome to plan each other favourites, whether it’s brunch by the Singapore River, or checking out the Sunset at Tanjong Beach Club.
2. GO CAFE HOPPIN’

Cafe Hoppin’ in now trending! Spend the day discovering the many hidden treasures in Singapore! As chocolates and cakes make a happy Valentine’s, it’s the only day where calories don’t count for a thing! Explore Singapore in search of yummy pretty little cafes, and stop by each to get some coffee or chocolate lovin’. Don’t forget the cakes too!
Some famous cafes that I totally love are Carpenter & Cook (Upper Bukit Timah), PS Cafe (Harding Road near Dempsey) & Wimbly Lu (Braddell). If you’d just like to walk around a pretty place with cafes around, check out Robertson Quay, Dempsey Hill & Robertson Walk!
Or you both could just simply just follow recommendations from our local food bloggers and make up a list before you guys start!
- I strongly recommend checking out Cafehoppingsg, a new blog dedicated specially to Cafes in Singapore! This site not only provides very detailed reviews, but also includes copies of the menu of each cafe!

PS: This is my definite to-do for this Valentine’s 😉

Grab some picnic mats, umbrellas and food, it’s time to go! Places like Marina Barrage are a perfect spot for a picnic day. Spend the day idling in the sunshine and munching on goodies. You could even bring your kids or doggy out! Don’t forget to bring some shade and sunblock. If you both are too busy or lazy to prepare your own chomps, then stop by a nice place to grab some takeaway, it’ll work too!
4. GO ON A ‘FIRST DATE’
Turn back the clock and go back to your first date. Guys, be sure to be as charming as you were and girls, dress up and look as lovely as you did. This will definitely turn on the sparks. It could also remind you both how you fell head over heels in love with each other.
5. GET AWAY
Ferry yourselves away to neighbouring islands, be it in Indonesia (Batam/Bintan), Phuket (Phi Phi) or Bali! If you both got some extra cash and days, go somewhere further! If you’ve no idea where to fly too, just throw a dart at the world map!
6. DO SOMETHING TOTALLY ‘OUT OF THE ORDINARY’
Time to be totally spontaneous and just do something completely new for a change. Be in exploration mode. Get a map, catch random buses to anywhere and spend time laughing when you get lost.

You guys could even go for an outdoor photoshoot and capture some lovely memories in the pretty places in Singapore.
7. CONQUER THE OUTDOORS
If you both are outdoor fans, there’re just tons out there to do! Conquer a hill, go diving or learn a new sport!
8. STAY IN

It’s been a tiring week at work, and all you both wanna do is get some good rest and quality time with each other. There’s no need to feel the pressure to plan a long day dating outdoors just cause it’s Valentine’s, for staying in can be equally as fun & romantic. Besides, restaurants are gonna be packed for sure. If you both are looking for some quiet time, order food in and snuggle in bed. Get off your mobiles and spend the day just watching your favourite movies/romance dramas. Spend the day baking some pretty Red Velvet cupcakes or cook up a wonderful dinner for each other. Light up some candles and have a candlelight dinner.
Some cute traditions you could start is you could spend the stay in day writing up many romantic things to do for the year ahead on pieces of pretty paper, fold it into hearts and put it in a jar. As you go along the year, spend each Sunday opening up one piece at a time, and doing them with each other. Just remember that Valentine’s is not defined by the activity you do, but by how much you feel about each other. As long as your Valentine’s was spent in each other’s company and you’ve both enjoyed it, it’s definitely a success.
This is one of my favourites. Furniture/home shopping is such a blessing. You both are so lucky to have a shared roof over your heads, so why not spend this day making it pretty? Go to IKEA or Franc Franc (my new found favourite store at Vivo) and find nice new furnishings/houseware for your little love nest. It could come in real handy for house parties when you have guests over!

Or go grocery shopping and stock up the house with yummy food for the week!
10. A DAY OF PAMPERING
Go for a couple massage, spa or the body works. Anything to make you both feel relaxed and refreshed. Catch a movie in those nice movie suites (Cathay Platinum or GV Gold Class),
and have a nice scrumptious candlelight dinner to end the day off. You could find a good deal on any of your local deal websites like Groupon.sg, deal.com or bigdeal.sg that you could purchase in advance! Remember to book in advance!
With that, here’s wishing you happy planning for a wonderful time on Valentine’s.
Much love,
